DIY Diva, Janice Anderssen shares her decor tips on refreshing your house on a small budget...
Hard to believe that spring is just around the corner and that it is almost time to pack away your thick winter woollies and thermal underwear!
I personally see spring as a time of renewal – a means of starting afresh with my home and my life. I also see the arrival of spring as a way to give my home a new look and get in shape at the same time.
I mean, let's be honest, who doesn't pack on a couple of extra kilos during winter. And while spring-cleaning may not appeal to everyone, that's because many see it as a chore. By giving your home a good clean and changing how rooms look can be liberating and have a positive effect on your life, your health and your mood.
Grab a tin of paint
It only takes one tin of paint to completely transform a room. It's as simple as choosing a colour and popping into your local Home Comforts store to match up on décor accessories and soft furnishings. For colour ideas visit www.Dulux.co.za and be inspired by fresh, vibrant colours.
Scrub it
May not sound like fun but give the bathroom a scrub from top to bottom. Use a solution of warm water and lemon juice to refresh tiles, fittings and showers. Not only will the bathroom look good, it will smell clean and fresh. If you are feeling a little more adventurous, take a look through a wide selection of features and projects that show you easy and affordable ways to give your bathroom an update.
Dish out
Empty those overflowing kitchen cabinets and organise your life and your kitchen. Toss out items you haven't used in a very long time, or those are damaged, chipped, or cracked and you'll be amazed at how much extra storage space you can create. If your kitchen is in need of more than cleaning, there are plenty of ways to give any kitchen a new look – even on the smallest budget.
Suck up
No matter what type of flooring you have in your home, over the winter months dust accumulates and extra attention should be given to vacuuming well. Give carpets a thorough cleaning – Belgotex Carpets offer advice on caring for your carpeting while Berry Floor explain how to keep your laminate flooring in pristine condition.
Sit back and relax
After all that hard work it's time to sit back and relax in your newly-transformed home and take satisfaction in the fact that it is refreshed and ready for the onset of spring and a new phase in your life.
